On Sept 26th the Virtual Earth Platform Team Blog made an exciting announcement that I only discovered today, the release of Microsoft Virtual Earth Web Service SDK 1.0.

This new SOAP-based Virtual Earth Web Services provides access to the Virtual Earth platform with a completely developer-defined user interface! The platform supports:

  • Mobile-optimized static map images
  • Direct map tile access
  • One-box search
  • Reverse geocoding
  • Routing

This is very exciting as it truly enables developers to create custom solutions on top of our powerful mapping service. I look forward on blogging on any uses of this API as it becomes better known within the community.
