Today I discovered a new free product called Microsoft Search Server 2008 Express for the Enterprise. This totally free standalone web portal allows you to search various internal information repositories from a unified search portal interface.

Also it supports security configurations to limit what sources various people can use. You can even monitor search performance through various built-in results that allow you to see where traffic is going and optimize your search terms.
